3000 BC: Cycladic civilization in the Aegean Sea starts
2,800 BC The calender was invented by the Mesopotamians. The year was divided into 12 months, based on the cycles of the moon and the sun. Every 4 years, there was an extra month inserted to make up for the difference from the seasonal year. The Greeks and Egyptians copied this calender, with the Egyptians finally inventing one almost exactly the same later on.
